Joanne & Robert |
Joanne Ellen Powell Hill was born on June 12th, 1939 and entered eternal rest on February 2nd, 2009 after suffering a stroke as a secondary condition to an ongoing fight with cancer. Originally from Philadelphia, her parents were John Thomas Powell and Ellen Jones Powell. She grew up in Brewerytown, Philadelphia and near Farimont Park, Philadelphia. After graduating from Olney High School and taking a position at ARCO, she met her future husband on a plane flight to Colorado Springs, when he sat in the last open seat on the plane, next to her. Joanne and Robert Hill (1930-2005) were married in 1964 and lived in Phoenix, AZ, Vorhees, NJ and Dillsburg, PA during their nearly 42 years of marriage. Joanne was very active in work and volunteer organizations in Dillsburg. She worked at Kampel Enterprises in Wellsville for 23 years, and also held an Avon route in the 80's and early 90's. Through the years she volunteered at Meals on Wheels, the United Methodist Thrift Shop of Dillsburg, Cub Scout Pack 146 of Wellsville, and Mt Zion United Methodist Church. Her most enduring legacy is through her children and grandchildren. Tom Hill, now of Olney MD, is married to Deborah (Scott) and they have two children Scotty (9) and Elizabeth Ellen (4). Bob Hill lives in Dillsburg. Chuck Hill of East Berlin is married to Deborah (Silsley) and they have one child, Arabella Julia-Joanna (16 months). The family will host visiting hours from 7-9 PM on Friday at Cocklin Funeral Home, Inc. at 30 N. Chestnut Street in Dillsburg, PA. Further visiting hours will be held Saturday from 9-10 AM followed by a service at 10:00 AM officiated by the Rev. Dwayne C. Poole at the funeral home and interment at Barrens Salem Union Cemetery in Dillsburg. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Dillsburg Public Library, 17 S. Baltimore St., Dillsburg, PA 17019 or Hospice of Central PA, PO Box 266 Enola, PA 17025.
